• 1922-1943 Benito Mussolini is dictator of Italy, known as Facist Italy
• Italy was allied with Nazi Germany until 1943
• for the last 2 years of WWII Italy removed Mussolini from power, banned the Facist Party, and joined the Allies
• the Italian Social Republic, lead by Benito Mussolini, was the only small country left fighting the Allies for Nazi Germany
• in 1946 after the war, the Italian Constitutional Referendum was established, and it was to decide whether the Kingdom of Italy would stay as a monarchy or become a republic
• Italy gained territory in Slovenia and in Dalmatia
• they abandoned these newfound borders after WWII to establish the borders which are the sam as present day Italy's
• during the war Italy had multiple puppet states such as present day Somalia, Libya, Eritrea, etc.
